Can't stop listening to this lounge cover version of "Black Hole Sun". Very well done.

This record is getting a lot of attention at the moment, and deservedly so. Soft Rocks outdo themselves with each new batch of re-edits. The whole record is killer, but this track is probably my favorite. I'm dying to know what the original track is. It sounds like Stevie Nicks, but I can't trace it...

A track from another Melodiya album, and what a gem! Very odd song structure and production. "512Kbytes" refers to the total memory of the Yamaha YIS-805 computer which was used in the production of this album.

I recently picked up two albums from the Melodiya label, the USSR state record label. It was the only record label in the Soviet Union from 1964 to 1989. Most of the label's output was classical music or state-approved western pop music. But there are also some delicious oddities on the Melodiya label, such as this record.

"La Fête Triste" (appropriately meaning "the sad festival") is one of the best tracks I ever heard on the Cybernetic Broadcasting System, which unfortunately shut down on July 7th.

I've had exactly two musical epiphanies in my lifetime. The first was in 1999 when I went to my first drum n bass show after my junior prom. The second was in 2005, when I discovered the CBS.

I still remember how I found out about the CBS. I asked for song information on the Discomusic.com forum. This man eventually found my post and told me I would have better luck asking on the CBS forum. To say the least, I had better luck; it forever altered my course in music. The CBS influenced Thousound heavily, as both the radio stream and the CBS forum provided me with many clues about artists and albums to track down.

I'm sad to see it go, but where the CBS died, something great will surely grow.

I've been saving this song for a very special occasion: Thousound's first birthday! Yes, exactly one year ago today, I challenged myself to share 1000 tracks from my record collection. I've posted just 69 songs so far, meaning I have about 14 years left until I reach my goal. But I'm in no hurry, are you? It's more fun to take it slow.

Speaking of slow, today's track was released on the first Wierd Records compilation, which contains mostly intense synth pop, EBM, minimal wave, etc. But "Here Is A Life" is a sort of peaceful lull in the storm, and as far as I can tell, Fanuelle's only released material.

O' Comme Histoire D'o

O' Comme Histoire D'oPierre Bachelet feat. Mathias Camison

1975

I'm not sure why, but European porno movies in the 1970s had some really good soundtracks. Of course, a lot of it was just really good funk or disco. But the theme song from Histoire d'O is truly evocative and beautiful music. I would place Bachelet's style in the same category as artists such as François De Roubaix and Franco Battiato, who I've posted previously.

Unfortunately, while it would be really great if the movie was somehow as touching as its soundtrack, from reading the plot synopsis, I'm not sure that is the case.

I've waited too long to post this. There are few songs as perfectly formed as this one. An all time favorite for me, even more than the original Telstar (which also rocks of course).

Time for some instrumental surf(ish) rock by a current band from The Netherlands. I didn't care for most of this album, but I've never tired of this song. Kinda predictable, but still very good.
